プロジェクトの敷地は、雄大な屋久島の自然に包まれた丘陵地にある。北にはモッチョム岳をはじめとする山々が連なり、南には穏やかな海がひらける。屋久島の特徴として着目したのは、雄大な自然を育んだ荘厳な岩の大地である。倒木や岩陰に生じるわずかな空隙になぞらえるように自然の裾野に佇み、人が自然とともに在るという原初の感覚を呼び覚ます場所をつくることを目指した。

南北の異なる景色を真っ直ぐに受けとめるため、建築は東西に延びる横長の構成とした。東西南北を結んだ建築の中央にリビング・ダイニングを据え、北と南に設けた大きな窓面を通して、山と海の雄大な景色が室内へと引き込まれる。土地の勾配にならい内部空間にも南北の高低差を設け、海に向かってひらけた南側にはインフィニティプールを、山に面する北側にはモッチョム岳を一望するテラスを配置した。リビング・ダイニングの天井は南から北へと逆アーチを描き、低い南側は海の水平ラインへと視線が遠くのび、高い北側は山々の頂へと自然に意識が導かれる。マテリアルにおいても屋久島の地盤を形づくってきた「石や岩」から着想を得た空間は、屋内から屋外へゆるやかな連続性を生み出している。
果てしない時間をかけてつくられた屋久島の自然に畏敬の念を払い、これから先もまた大自然とともに在り続ける、静謐な場所をつくりあげた。

The site lies within the rolling hills of Yakushima, enveloped by the island's vast natural landscape. Mountains, including Mt. Mocchom, rise to the north, while a calm sea opens to the south. What drew our attention was the monumental rocky ground that has given rise to this extraordinary nature—ancient bedrock shaped over immeasurable time. Like the subtle voids that form beneath fallen trees or in the shadow of stones, the architecture settles quietly at nature's edge, aspiring to be a place that awakens an instinctive sense of dwelling in harmony with the natural world.

To receive the contrasting landscapes of north and south with equal clarity, the architecture extends along an east–west axis, placing the living and dining space at its core. Large openings to both north and south draw the mountain and sea directly into the interior. Following the natural gradient of the land, the interior shifts gradually in elevation from south to north: an infinity pool faces the sea to the south, while a terrace to the north opens toward the full view of Mt. Mocchom. The ceiling arcs upward from south to north—drawing the eye low across the sea to the south, and naturally upward toward the summits to the north. Inspired by the rocky ground of Yakushima, the material palette creates a quiet continuity between interior and exterior.
With quiet reverence for a landscape shaped over immeasurable time, we have created a place of enduring stillness—one that aspires to remain in harmony with the vastness of nature.
